Payton began his basketball career with the SuperSonics of Seattle after being selected in the 1990 NBA Draft. He was chosen by the Seattle SuperSonics with the second overall pick, and he played for them for 13 seasons. After scoring 13 points and dishing out ten assists in a victory over the Nuggets on the road, Gray notched his first double-double in his third game.
Payton won the NBA championship in 2006, won two gold medals at the Olympics, was named defensive player of the year in 1996 and was a nine-time NBA All-Star, nine-time member of the All-NBA, and a nine-time member of the All-Defensive First Team. Along with assists and made 3-pointers in 1999-2000, The Glove also rose to the top of the league in steals in 1995-96.
