Ridhima Pandey is a school going girl. She is studying in 8th Class in Haridwar. Her father name is Dinesh Pandey. Ridhima is just 11-years old, yet she understood the emergency of Climate Crisis. Young generation knows that their future will not be safe if immediate actions are not taken to correct the climate changes.

How was Ridhima Pandey Selected for UN Climate Action Summit 2019 in New York?

Ridhima Pandey is an active Climate Activist since 2017. In the year 2017, at the age of just 9 years, she filed a case in National Green  Tribunal Against Indian Government for not taking adequate actions on Climate Change. In her petition, she pointed on increasing pollution and environmental degradation in India.As we have mentioned that Ridhima is a climate activist, she got to know from a person that an International Level Organisation is looking for young people regarding Climate Crisis. She contacted them and gave an interview in the last week of August 2019. In the interview, she mentioned the work done by her on Climate Changes and the petition filed by her in India against Government. After that, she got selected and traveled to New York for attending the UN Climate Summit 2019.

The Journey of Ridhima Pandey as Climate Activist

The family of Ridhima Pandey had shifted from Nainital to Haridwar in 2013. In Haridwar, she experienced that the temperature is rising and both Summer and Winter Seasons have become extremely hot. Due to which, Water Level of Ganga decreases and sometimes, due to heavy rains, it reaches the Danger Level. In 2013, Riddhima and her family seen such destroying rains in Haridwar that caused serious floods and cost numerous lives.

After that, she studied about Climate Change. She got the answer that all these bad things are happening because of Global Warming. Ridhima also understood that the measure actions should be taken to correct the mistakes, otherwise, the future of the next generation will be in Danger.

She also found that the government is not doing their work properly for copping with Climate Change. With the support of her parents, she filed a case against central government of India. In her complaint, she accused the Indian Government of not taking actions for the climate crisis. Once the case was dismissed and now they filed in the Supreme Court.

Ridhima Pandey Views on Ganga Cleaning

On Ganga Cleaning, Ridhima Pandey said that government has just done paperwork. Big changes are not seen at the ground level. Plastics are not banned completely.

A huge amount of waste, including polythene sacks, trash and mechanical emanating, goes into the Ganga River untreated and there is complete disregard with respect to the authorities.

Further, she adds that we call Ganga as Ganga Maiya. Yet, we pollute it by washing clothes and throwing waste in it. The Government claims that they are cleaning Ganga but in actuality, there is hardly any changes can be seen. Ganga is still polluted and a lot to be done to clean it. The government should do their work properly and must take immediate actions for climate change.

Ridhima is very well aware of the dangers of Climate Changes. She said that India is at the Danger Level in terms of Climate Changes. The country has already faced adverse impacts of climate changes like floods, heavy rains without rainy seasons.
